Summary
Mark “Awful” Alford called his own town hall “hijacked” after being booed—but that’s not hijacking, that’s democracy. When questions get real, I’ll stay and answer them.

by Ricky Dana, Candidate for U.S. House Missouri District 4
Mark “Awful” Alford got booed at his own town hall—and instead of facing the tough questions, he backed off. Then he claimed the event was “hijacked.” That’s not leadership—it’s fear.
Multiple trusted news sources say the crowd heckled and booed nearly every response he gave—over federal layoffs, Medicare cuts, immigration policy, and more. One national panel described the event as a flashpoint of anger, especially among local federal employees who had been let go.
But Alford blamed “agitators” from outside the district—calling the event a hijacking—and saying they prevented actual residents from speaking. That’s not the truth. This was his own constituents—and they deserved answers.
Reddit commenters who attended described a poorly organized event with no clear line or rotation, letting only selected people inside while many waited outside. Frustration boiled over—and the crowd spoke up—and rightly so.
Alford responded with platitudes—telling federal workers their job loss was “God’s plan,” and calling on patience as if “we’re living in the greatest time in American history.” But folks need action, not faith-based spin.
That’s not hijacking. That’s accountability. People were fed up with empty answers and wanted real leadership.
When I’m elected as your congressman, I won’t dodge the hard questions. I’ll welcome the heat. If I don’t know an answer, I’ll say so—and I’ll follow up. Because that’s what public service looks like.
I’ll listen to all Missourians—Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike—and work to find common ground. That means negotiation, integrity, and service.
I’m ready to face the real issues facing rural Missouri—healthcare, farming, jobs, infrastructure—and I’m ready to stand up for every voice in this district.
